Cleaning Cast Iron

HOW TO CLEAN CAST IRON & CARBON STEEL COOKWARE (7 EASY STEPS)

TOUGH ON CRUST, GENTLE ON SEASONING - Clean without detergent or chemical to preserve your seasoning.

1) Wash Right Away: Clean cookware immediately after use while it is still hot. DO NOT soak with water as it may rust.

2) Add Hot Water: Add a little hot water to loosen food on cookware.

3a) Scrub Off Stuck-On Bits:  Remove stuck-on food with a silicone chainmail scrubber pad or scraper.  (Wear gloves if the water is extra hot!)  Avoid using the dishwasher, soap, or steel wool, as these may strip the cookware’s seasoning.

3b) Light Cleaning: For light cleaning, a brush will suffice.

4) Rinse: Rinse the cookware clean.

5) Towel Dry: Thoroughly wipe dry with a towel.

6) Apply Oil: Using a cloth or paper towel, apply a light coat of vegetable oil or melted shortening to the inside of the cookware (outside is optional). Buff to remove any excess.

7) Put It Away: Store the cookware in a dry place.
